Determination of pomelo and hesperidin in fruit juice-LUMEX capillary electrophoresis

March 05, 2024
Orange juice production is the main driving force and direction of the development of China's citrus industry. A large number of epidemiological and animal studies have shown that citrus fruits have antioxidant, anti-cancer, prevent circulatory diseases, anti-allergy and antibacterial effects. This is mainly because citrus contains flavonoids based on flavanones (80%), of which hesperidin and naringin are the most important flavonoids in citrus. Hesperidin has anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects, immune regulation, and anti-tumor effects. Naringin has strong biological activity in reducing blood fat, sedative, anti-oxidation, anti-tumor, anti-fungal, anti-atherosclerosis and so on. With the detection and content control of two kinds of flavonoid active ingredients in orange juice beverages, it has a positive effect on improving the value of orange juice beverages, guiding consumption and promoting industrial development. The content of hesperidin and naringin can be determined by LUMEX capillary electrophoresis, and these components are detected based on the separation of different components of the beverage in capillary electrophoresis and the absorption of these components at a wavelength of 220 nm.
